While your sofa will naturally form the centrepiece of your living room, no matter how attractive or eye-catching it is, it can’t carry the entire space. In order to help brighten up your home, and give your sofa the stylish setting it deserves, you’ll need to add some well-chosen accessories to your living room.
Bringing some splashes of colour, tactile textures and interesting shapes into the room can help to create highlights and lowlights and make the space more rounded, more attractive and more welcoming. Here are some of our favourite sofa accessories and ideas to get you started.
1. Lighting
Lighting is one of the most important features of any room. Placing some stylish lamps around the space will literally help to brighten up your living room. Create pools of light by putting a few different lamps around the space. Add a little height with one or two standard lamps and turn your sideboard or coffee table into a feature with an attractive table lamp.
2. Armchairs
As well as giving you a little extra seating space, adding an armchair to the room will bring visual interest to your décor and personality to your living space. Choose an armchair upholstered in a bold fabric to further enhance your living room look. We have some fantastic brick, teal and vine-coloured pieces in our armchairs collection, making it easy for you to find the perfect addition to your living room.
3. Stools
Adding a stool is another good way to brighten up your living room. Stools provide comfortable occasional seating and are perfect for homes where space is at a premium. Versatile and practical, a brightly coloured stool, like those in our Model 00 stools collection, will give your living room the character and style it deserves.
4. Throws
Adding a throw to your living space is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to brighten up your seating area. Throws can be used to add a splash of pattern and texture to your sofa and liven up your living room’s colour scheme. Find a throw that echoes the tones in your sofa, rug, walls or soft furnishings or invest in one that contrasts with the rest of the accessories in the space.
As well as bringing a little extra style to your living room, a throw will make your seating area cosier and more welcoming. After all, what’s more inviting than a soft, warm blanket on a cold winter’s night?
5. Cushions
Cushions are an essential sofa accessory. Adding comfort and style to your living space, they can be used to bring splashes of colour to your living room and make your sofa irresistible. Place cushions on both your armchair and sofa to help bring the space together. Choose a colour that complements your fabric sofa and armchair or one that brings out the tones in the other accessories in the space.
The great thing about cushions is that they are affordable and easy to change. So, if you decide you want to use a different accent colour in your living room, all you have to do is buy a few new cushion covers.
6. Rugs
A rug is an important feature in any living room. As they normally lie on the floor between your furnishings, they automatically tie the space together. This is why it’s important to find a rug that reflects your style and enhances your décor.
Rugs work especially well with sofas that are raised slightly off of the floor like our Model 02 designs. Place the sofa on the rug to frame your furnishing or put the rug just in front of your sofa to define your seating area.
7. Mirrors
Mirrors are a fantastic tool for reflecting ambient light and making a room feel larger than it is. Place a large mirror right behind your sofa to trick the eye into thinking the room is twice as big as it appears. Mirrors will also reflect any light cast by your newly installed lamps and will help to ensure there are no dark corners left in your living room.
